Reliability of antipollution on board diagnostic systems

By stricter European standards in terms of polluting emissions, car manufacturers have to design anti-pollution systems more and more efficient and make sure that they are working properly over time. In this context, Phimeca Engineering went with Renault to develop a methodology and a tool for :

  • estimating wrong detections and non-detection of diagnostics OBD probabilities for threshold fixed decision values
  • determining the threshold decision value and others factors to reliability achieve goals for a OBD diagnostic given

The work initiated by Renault was completed by statistical approaches like the proposition of new filters, new methodologies for some diagnostics and by the development of a numerical models with a graphical user interface to realize all the calculations.

This study permitted providing Renault’s engineers with an approach and a tool to design and calibrate efficiently diagnostics while respecting the defined reliability goals.
